Senscient has successfully completed the commissioning of forty safety-critical sour gas detection systems at the Majnoon field in Southern Iraq. Majnoon is one of the largest oil fields in the world, with an estimated 38 billion STOIIP (stock tank oil initially in place). The application is for a Central Gas Processing facility operated by Shell that produces gas with high levels Hydrogen Sulphide (H2S).
Senscient was chosen for this application because of its unique ability for detecting ultra-low levels of sour gas (H2S) and thus ensuring safe operations and uptime for the facility. Senscient uses laser-based technology to create a “fence line” of gas detection that provides immediate warning in the event of a fugitive release of toxic gases. The completion and commissioning of this application allows the Shell facility to operate safely while minimizing any risk of human exposure to toxic gases.
